My Writing

“Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.”- Cyril Connolly My writing for many people means a whole different language. They say, “This doesn’t make any sense at all”, or, “What are really trying to say?” I never have taken anyone’s suggestions because I like my writing as it is. The reason my writing seems to be a different language is because of the way I am; and when I read other peoples’ essays I usually don’t understand them. I think the words that they use in an essay makes it confusing for me, but not for others. My writing, in reality, is my language, a language that no one understands except me. When I write an essay I know what I am saying, but others say that it doesn’t make sense. This makes me feel that my essays are bad. When I entered Dr. Sirias’s class, however, his comments and advice started changing my writing. People began to love my essays and they even began to say that my writing...

Save the whales from being hunted

Save the whales from being hunted By: Aditi Bhatty Japan plans to hunt not only 935 minke whales and 50 fin whales but also 50 endangered humpback whales. They have been defying the international ban on whaling by continuing to slaughter these magnificent mammals for the past 20 years. The Humpbacks are known as the “singers of the sea” because of their melodic sounds made by males calling to females. On November 18, Japan launches their whaling fleet for the Southern Ocean Sanctuary, around Antarctica. The country plans to kill more than 1,000 whales over the next several months since commercial whaling was banned in the late 1980s. This is the first time that these whales are being hunted industrially since the mid 1960s. Japan says its “scientific research”, a way to perpetuate a commercial hunt and they say it’s “tradition” which is another excuse for the hunt. The Whaling Company says that coastal people have been eating whale for 400 years. Afte...

Festival of Diwali

Every year my parents and I celebrate Diwali, or The Festival of Lights, as some people call it. This celebration where people light candles and set them around the house to signify victory of good over evil. The festival last five days occurs during October or November. We invite people from the Indian Embassy, friends, and family to come and enjoy Diwali with us. At the party, everybody is drinks and munches on snacks, the children watching a movie and the teenagers play Wii. A few hours later, our parents call us down for dinner. Everyone comes ready to eat some hot Indian food. We have yellow rice, spicy chicken, beans, and much more. Then come the desserts: Gulab Janum, ice cream, chocolate chip brownies and more. At last, we have the fireworks where everyone comes outside to enjoy them. We have rockets, volcanoes, sparkles, butterflies and pops. We stay up all the night watching the fireworks, adult...

Evil in the planet Tyrannus

The moment my grandmother gave me a book to read, I really didn’t want to read it. However, I decided to flip the pages: that’s when I saw my name in the book. I realized that it was dedicated to me. So, I decided to ready the book in order to make my grandmother really happy. In the beginning of the story, the narrative tells you about a group of people on a space ship, traveling around space when they suddenly are pulled in by a planet named Tyrannus led, by an evil president named Nimo. I thought my grandmother was writing about an evil man leading an empire similar to Adolf Hitler taking over every country in his path in World War II. As I started to read it, I felt hatred for the things Nimo was about to do. For instance, he would send his workers tied to bomb and drop them on a city on Planet Earth, and sending missiles with a fixed target if people refused to surrender. The president of Tyrannus didn’t really care about what people would say it h...

My Grandmother

I will tell you about my grandmother or whom I call Dadi, because she is an elder and you need to respect people who are older than you. She lives in Punna, India with her husband in an apartment. Her name is Margaret Bhatty. She was born in Nagarpat on Oct 5, 1930. She had many siblings, including one named Florrie or as I call her, Auntie Flo. When the sisters gather at home, they will be telling jokes. They are funny, because they tell the family about funny incidents in their lives. My grandmother is a journalist and writer in India. My grandmother writes everyday in her office. She writes stories for children, as well as for adults. One of her stories for adults is called The Evil Empire, about the president of evil empire planning to destroy Planet Earth and other galactic civilizations one by one, like candles. Niti and Yash have to think of something before this happens. Niti and Yash are junior space veterans of the tourist sort, having t...

My Home

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” -Mahatma Gandhi I call Rajasthan “The Pink City” because its city painted in pink and white. Every single day people visit monuments where kings, queens, princes and even princesses defended their country against invasion from enemies that wanted to change history or conquer in the name of. This pink city was founded by the Maharaja Jai Singh II, a Kachhwaha Rajput. The Maharaja felt that he needed to move to Jaipur with the increase of the population and the scarcity of water. His plan was to construct major palaces, roads and squares which took him four years to do it. The reason it’s called “The Pink City” because when the Prince of Whales came to visit Jaipur, the whole city was painted in Pink color to welcome him. Jaipur filled with rich in its culture and architectural beauty it’s something the tourists can’t ignore. The reason it’s my favorite place because the culture there in my home is something I can’t describe or maybe it’s som...
